How do I clear my browser cache?

On occasion you may be asked to delete your web browser cache.  This is the temporary files your computer stores to load websites quicker, type in URLs faster, and keep you logged into sites.  When a website or service is updated it may be necessary to clear your cache before the changes take effect for you.  Follow the steps or links below to clear your cache.


 

Edge:

  • Open Edge
  • View your history by selecting Hub
  • Click on History
  • Select "Clear all history"
  • Select the types of data you want to remove from your computer
  • Click on "Clear"
  • Close all browser windows and re-open

Chrome:

  • On your computer, open Chrome
  • At the top right, click "More" (three small dots)
  • Click "More tools" then "Clear browsing data"
  • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time
  • Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes
  • Click Clear data
  • Close all browser windows and re-open

Firefox:

  • Click the menu button (three lines) and choose Options
  • Select the Privacy & Security panel
  • In the Cookies and Site Data section, click Clear Data….
  • Remove the check mark in front of Cookies and Site Data
  • With Cached Web Content check marked, click the Clear button
  • Close all browser windows and re-open

Safari:

  • Click on the Safari drop-down menu and select Preferences.
  • Click the Advanced tab.  Select the Show Develop menu in menu bar checkbox and close the Preferences window. 
  • Select the Develop drop-down menu.  Click Empty Cache. 
  • Note:  You may want to also clear your browser history. 

 

Internet Explorer:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on Tools (the Cog in the upper right of the screen), then Safety, select Delete browsing history.... (if the menu bar is hidden, press Alt to make it visible)
  • Deselect Preserve Favorites website data
  • Select Temporary Internet files or Temporary Internet files and website files > Cookies or Cookies and website data > History
  • Click Delete
  • Close all browser windows and re-open the browser
